About CINQUILL

CINQUILL Medical Publishers Inc., (CINQUILL) is a non-profit medical publisher and educational house located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. CINQUILL is led by a board of directors that are interested and experienced in the dissemination of knowledge. We are passionate about medical education, and are committed to supporting free, open access educational resources for clinician, trainees, and researchers. 

About Our History

2015
Established

The early beginnings of CINQUILL originated in 2015 when a group of clinicians, researchers, and users of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) set out to create a space designated to explore the questions that arose when using this device.

Under the umbrella of the Cardiovascular Imaging Network at Queen’s (CINQ) and VascNet, our first publication, POCUS Journal was born.

2016 First Published Issue
POCUS Journal, Vol 01 Iss 01

The POCUS Journal was officially launched in February 2016 with its inaugural issue. 

The first editorial board included 8 members across 5 disciplines including: Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Critical Care, Emergency Department/FAST, and Internal Medicine.

2019
Appointment of New Co-Editor in Chief

Dr. Benjamin Galen, MD FACP, joined Dr. Amer Johri, MD MSc FRCPC FASE, as Co-Editor in Chief of the POCUS Journal.

2021 Incorporation
CINQUILL Medical Publishers Inc.

In December 2021, CINQUILL Medical Publishers Inc. was incorporated as a not-for-profit. Dr. Amer Johri stepped down from his role as Co-Editor in Chief of the POCUS Journal to become the Publishing Director for CINQUILL. 

To date, the editorial board for the POCUS Journal included over 15 members covering various disciplines including: Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Global Health, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Pediatrics, and Pulmonary and Critical Care.

2022 First Special Issue and 'CINQUILL' Publication
POCUS Journal, Vol 07 Kidney Issue

In February 2022, our first publication under CINQUILL was POCUS Journal's first special issue. The Kidney Issue highlights the role of POCUS in nephrology and signifies its addition to our disciplines. 

As of this special issue, we have published 14 Issues spanning 7 Volumes, containing over one-hundred peer-reviewed research articles, case reports, reviews and more!

About Our Team

CINQUILL

Amer Johri, MD MSc FRCPC FASE

Director/Founder

Dr. Johri is the Founder of POCUS Journal, publishing it under the umbrella of the Cardiovascular Imaging Network at Queen’s (CINQ) since 2016, before formalizing the publishing company CINQUILL Medical Publishers Inc. as a non-profit organization in 2021. He is widely published in the field of cardiovascular ultrasound and point of care ultrasound (POCUS), with >150 peer-reviewed publications and an H-Index of 44. He has also contributed chapters to books on POCUS, and through CINQ, has published open access educational iBooks for medical students. He is also a member of the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography’s (JASE) social media editorial board.

Our Journals

Benjamin Galen, MD

Dr. Galen manages the fifteen-member editorial board of POCUS Journal and assigns Section Editors to submissions. He controls all correspondence between the Journal and the Publisher. Dr. Galen maintains the final decision on all submissions if additional input is needed. He is the final review of POCUS Journal issue proofs prior to publication. Dr. Galen chairs the Editorial Board meetings and hosts POCUS Journal podcasts which are posted online.

Sherri Bloch, PhD

Sherri manages the day-to-day activities of POCUS Journal, corresponds with authors regarding their submission, ensures all information and forms are collected and recorded, oversees the workflow of the POCUS Journal submission portal, maintains and updates the POCUS Journal website, copyedits manuscripts for publication, and edits article proofs and online article versions. She also organizes Editorial Board Meetings, facilitates sponsor ad placement, and monitors the support email account.
